MAGNETIC BRACELETS OFFER PAIN RELIEF?
Magnetic Therapy Bracelets and Pain Relief
What is magnetic therapy? Are the benefits of wearing magnetic bracelets real or placebo? Do they truly offer pain relief? These are all questions which have most probably crossed your mind.
Magnetic Therapy is classed as an alternative health therapy designed to stimulate the circulation of blood and encourage the uptake of oxygen and nutrients into the body’s cells. According to a survey by Dubai Healthcare Authority, over 55% of people in the UAE are currently using alternative health therapies.
In fact, the worldwide magnet therapy industry totals sales of over one billion dollars per year. Magnetic therapy devices are also now registered as prescribable medical devices in over 50 countries worldwide and often offered as pain relief treatment. What is more….over the last 10 years, there have been over 300 world wide research studies into magnetic therapy with some studies demonstrating very powerful results.
One such study, carried out by the Peninsular Medical School, can easily put the magnetic bracelets cynic’s minds to rest. Published in the British Medical Journal, the study involved 65 patients who were suffering from tendon pain. Each patient was given one of three bracelets: a standard strength magnetic bracelet, a weak magnetic bracelet, or a false ‘placebo’ magnetic bracelet. The participants were then asked to wear the bracelet for 12 weeks and rate and record their levels of pain whilst wearing the magnetic bracelets.
Although each patient involved reported having less pain whilst wearing the bracelets, the ones with the largest reduction of pain came from the patients who were wearing the standard strength magnetic bracelet, thus suggesting that the benefits of magnetic bracelets are real.
In light of the research, a spokesperson for the Arthritis Research Campaign said:
“We funded this study because we wanted to establish if there was any evidence for the claims made on behalf of magnetic bracelets; and we didn’t want the public to waste their money on devices that didn’t work. Results appear to show that wearing a magnetic bracelet does reduce pain in people with hip and knee osteoarthritis.”
Magnetic bracelets are an inexpensive, safe and comfortable alternative treatment to problems associated with the muscles and joints, which, as it has been proven, can really help alleviate pain and discomfort.
